2011-2012 Girls Soccer Tryouts

The Lady Mustang Soccer tryouts for JV and Varsity will be Monday-Thursday, November 28 – December 1, at the Pearce track, beginning at 3:45 pm.

The Lady Mustangs in their first playoff game, and playing almost half the game a player down, defeated Greenville in a shootout!  The next game, however, against Frisco Centennial, ended in a 1-0 loss, and ended the fantastic run the Lady Mustangs had for over two years.  Congrats on a valiant effort!

Lady Mustangs End District Play with Victory

Our Lady Mustangs ended district play with a convincing 4-0 win over Newman Smith. The midfielders decided to put on a scoring show and entertained their fans with their skills.  Hayley Kerr got things started in the twenty-sixth minute of the game with a gorgeous arching shot from the 25.  Eleven minutes later, a fabulous cross by Kaitlyn Fletcher was sent from Jackie Solitare to Brooke Johnston who blasted it in from the 20. With two minutes left in the half, a hooking corner from Solitare was fired into the net by Lizzie Bach. One minute later, Johnston placed a perfect ball to Kerr who bent it beautifully over and past the keeper. Score: Lady Mustangs 4 - Newman Smith 0Excellent defense by Meagan Stewart, Celia Beron, and Maddie Drake kept keeper Rosa Medina relaxed and rested. Midfielders Kiele Miller, Kim Collins, Dayana Gonzaga, and Audrey Silver advanced the ball well, keeping forwards Veronica Pippard and Emily Semon busy all night.

Lady Mustangs Senior Night!

Nine graduating Lady Mustangs were escorted by their parents onto the field at JJ Pearce last Wednesday night to receive their accolades and bouquets. The girls – all headed to college and several planning to bring their soccer gear – dedicated their senior night game to Coach Oscar Borgarello and thanked their parents and family for years of soccer watching in sometimes harsh weather conditions.

Seniors honored for their outstanding contributions and hard work were captains
Rosa Medina, Kaitlyn Fletcher, and Brooke Johnston, and team mates Hayley Kerr, Sarah Rivers, Hannah Tessaro, Veronica Pippard, Kiele Miller and Megan Stewart.
A clear, cool night provided the perfect backdrop for enthusiastic fans who cheered the girls’ play against an aggressive opponent. After a scoreless first half, the Creekview Lady Mustangs struck first with a penalty kick from a hand ball in the box. Our Pearce Lady Mustangs fired up their offensive muscle and  landed a late-game goal from senior Veronica Pippard to tie the Creekview Mustangs, 1-1.

Lady Mustangs Draw with Newman Smith

Our Lady Mustangs played first-time opponent Newman Smith at home and found an unexpectedly fired-up opponent in the Lady Trojans. Both teams fought hard throughout the first half, with the Lady Trojans striking first with the first score against our Lady Mustangs in District play. With 5:29 left in the first half on a free kick 20 yards out, Brooke Johnston evened the score by firing the shot into the corner of the net. Rosa Medina had some great saves during the second half of play to keep the Lady Trojans off the board.  Our Lady Mustangs had multiple opportunities to take the lead, but the game ended in a tie.

Lady Mustangs 2-0-1 in District Play

Our Lady Mustangs faced first-time opponent R. L. Turner Lady Lions with a welcome combination of home field advantage and mild weather. On her third corner kick in a twelve minute period, Brooke Johnston delivered the ball to Sarah Rivers who served it into the box where it was batted around by multiple players. Hayley Kerr decided to end the scrum and fired the ball past the keeper into the back of the net! First half score: Lady Mustangs 1 - Lady Lions 0 Two minutes into the second half saw a beautiful pass from Lizzie Bach to the feet of Kiele Miller bulleted forcefully into the net by Miller.  At the 30 minute mark, Johnston targeted Rivers with a strong pass who then powered it into the wind with a mighty strike for an awesome final score!  Lady Mustangs 3 - Lady Lions 0 It was great to have Dayana Gonzaga and Audrey Silver rejoining our Lady Mustangs! Fabulous defensive play by Celia Beron, Maddie Drake, Rosa Medina, and Meagan Stewart kept the Lady Lions scoreless.  Excellent midfield and forward play by Kim Collins, Kaitlyn Fletcher, Veronica Pippard, Jackie Solitare, and Hannah Tessaro kept the Lady Lions keeper busy all night. Congratulations Lady Mustangs!

Lady Mustangs Open District Play with Win over Highland Park

The first district game found our Lady Mustangs at home against Highland Park.  Our Lady Mustangs served notice they
had come to play with a little over 10 minutes left in the first half when a rebound from Veronica Pippard was fired into the net by Kaitlyn Fletcher.  Less than a minute later, an excellently placed through ball from Brooke Johnston was bulleted into the net again by Fletcher.    The first half score: Lady Mustangs 2 - HP Lady Scots 0 Ten minutes into the second half saw Fletcher carry the ball up the field and shoot for her hat trick!  Final score: Lady Mustangs 3 - HP 0.  Outstanding saves by keeper Rosa Medina kept the Scots scoreless. Superb defensive play during the second half by the entire Lady Mustang team kept the Lady Scots frustrated, earning a yellow card for one player who injured two Lady Mustangs!

JV Beats RL Turner

The JV soccer won their district game against RL Turner by a 1 – 0 score.  The goal was scored in the second half by Morgan Landry with a nice shot to the lower corner with a perfect thru-pass from Ciara Warren.  JJP had several chances to get the second goal but RL’s defense and goalie did a nice job to keep the score 1 – 0.  JJP defense and midfield played strong and prevented RL from having any clear chances and keep the shut-out.  JJP starting goalie, Caitlin Arnett, had to leave the game due to injury and Maria Huitareo came in to preserve the shut-out.

Pearce Repeats as State Champions!

Richardson Pearce girls win 4A state soccer title, 3-0
GEORGETOWN – For 80 minutes Saturday, Richardson Pearce's soccer program affirmed its strength, offering the spectators at Birkelbach Field hard evidence of its superiority.

Resembling a tank rolling down a steep hill, the Mustangs forged ahead, unleashed powerful shots and finished with ease. The end result was a 3-0 victory over Boerne Champion in the Class 4A final and the Mustangs' second consecutive state title.

"It's an amazing feeling," said Taylor Mathews, who played a part in all three goals. "To do it again is something that doesn't come around real often."

Then again, Pearce, more than most teams, seemed capable of achieving the unobtainable. After all, the Mustangs (24-4-2) hadn't lost since Feb. 9 and yielded only one goal in its last 17 matches. During that stretch, Pearce gathered steam until it put forth one of its finest performances Saturday.

"We finished," Kathryn Watson said, "with our strongest game."

Watson helped make that possible in the 12th minute, when she corralled a long ball from Mathews and fired a low shot past Champion's goalkeeper Morgan Glick to give Pearce a 1-0 lead.

For the rest of the first half, Glick and Champion (23-4-4) were under siege, fending off Pearce's sustained attack. But they could only do so much and succumbed to the pressure applied by the Mustangs in the 26th minute. That's when a free kick by Mathews landed at the feet of Sarah Rivers, who fired a shot in a crowd of players that eluded Glick and resulted in the second goal. Ten minutes later, Mathews blasted a shot from the edge of the penalty box as Pearce surged ahead 3-0.

"We knew then," Watson said, "it was over."

They were right, and 40 minutes later a celebration commenced.

"It's very difficult to come back and win another championship," said Pearce coach Oscar Borgarello. "It's very sweet."

Playoffs!

ON TO STATE AGAIN!!
LADY MUSTANG SOCCER PLAYOFFS - GAME SUMMARIES

Your Lady Mustangs came out fired up for their first playoff game against Dallas Conrad.
Kathryn Watson made the first statement of the game during the 25 minute mark of the first half, when she stole the ball from the Conrad Chargers and took it in for the first score of the game.Brooke Johnston followed 3 minutes later with a steal, which she sent to Watson, who passed it to Jackie Solitaire who scored her first of 3 goals for the game. Watson connected with Solitaire eight minutes later, for her second goal. Johnston sent a buzzing pass toWatson at the nine minute mark, who fired in her second of three goals for the game! With four minutes left in the first half, Veronica Pippard shot a bullet into the goal, giving your Lady Mustangs a 5 - 0 lead over the Lady Chargers.

The second half found Taylor Mathews firing in a shot at the 33 minute mark; Watson and Solitaire scoring to each receive a hat trick, coming off an excellent cross by Kiele Miller. The game ended with your Lady Mustangs getting great passing practice and scoring a total of 9 goals in the game.

The second playoff game was played at Berkner against the West Mesquite Lady Wranglers. A throw-in by Gayle Ziegler at the 32 minute mark was kicked around by multiple players until finding the foot of Taylor Mathews, who tapped it in for the opening goal. Four minutes later, Sarah Rivers crossed a beautiful ball to Kathryn Watson, who fired it in for the second goal of the game. Rivers next crossed to Ziegler, who took it in for a score. Watson also crossed to Ziegler for a goal, with the final goal of the first half and game coming on a free kick from Maddie Harper from the 35 yard line. Final score: Lady Mustangs 5 - Lady Wranglers 0.

The third playoff game was played at Lake Highlands against The Colony. A fabulous crowd of supporters were present to cheer the Lady Mustangs to victory over an aggressive opponent. Only minutes into the game, Kathryn Watson fired in a shot to let The Colony know the Lady Mustangs meant business. Seven minutes later,Taylor Mathews made them pay for knocking Sarah Rivers down in the box with a perfect strike deep in the left corner on the penalty kick. Twenty minutes later, Watson connected with Gayle Ziegler, who sent a perfect strike into the net. Maddie Harper also put a score on the board with a charging header on a corner kick byMathews. Kudos to Brooke Johnston for winning every ball in the middle and providing a frustrating evening for The Colony midfielders. Final score: Lady Mustangs 4 - The Colony 1.

The Regional Quarterfinal game was held in McKinney under gusting winds against the Frisco Wakeland Lady Cavs.  Defeated by our Lady Mustangs in last year's regional semifinal game, the Lady Cavs were looking to settle that score. Maddie Harper took that dream away with an awesome shot off a feed from Kathryn Watson in the 23rd minute of the first half. A keeper mistake 12 minutes later cost the Cavs, as an advancing Gayle Ziegler finished off a ball fromWatson and buried it in the net. A shout out to keeper Rosa Medina who saved a penalty kick and other wicked shots!

Rockwall LadyJackets were the opponents in the Regional Semifinal game at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton. A rough and rugged team boasted with a pennant of "Lady Jackets State Bound" setting the mood for a rematch of the district teams.  A hand ball in the box by one of the Jackets created an opportunity for our Lady Mustangs:Taylor Mathews took the penalty kick and placed it perfectly in the back corner of the net. Mathews scored again at the 15 minute mark, delivering a beautifully lifted ball directly into the net.  Maddie Harper put the exclamation point on the game with a powerful header off a corner kick by Gayle Ziegler with eleven minutes left in the game. Defenders Harper, Kaitlyn Fletcher, Megan Stewart, and keeper Rosa Medina kept the shut out, along with excellent midfield play by Hayley Kerr, Brooke Johnston, Sarah Rivers, and Hannah Tessaro. Kathryn Watson, Mathews, and Ziegler kept the Cavs frustrated on top. Great contributions were also made by Sheina Tolmas, Becca Solitare, Kiele Miller, Veronica Pippard, Celia Beron, Jackie Solitare, Maddie Drake, Kim Collins,Lizzie Bach, and Emily Semon. Final score: Lady Mustangs 3 - LadyJackets 0

With the wind at their backs, the Richardson Pearce Lady Mustangs kept the ball in the air for much of the first half of the Brazos Valley Cup championship game. Then in the second half, they played it on the ground.
Either way, it was a breeze.

Pearce beat Bryan 8-1 on Saturday at the Aggie Soccer Complex to win the Cup title. "There is a reason they are ranked No. 3 in the nation," first-year Bryan head coach Amy Pettibone said. "We told the girls at halftime that [Pearce] was showing them exactly what perfect soccer looks like. Their passes are right on, and their runs are great." Pearce senior Taylor Mathews scored three goals and keyed a devastating 10-minute stretch that gave the Lady Mustangs a 5-0 lead 23 minutes into the game. Pearce (6-2-1) found little room against Bryan's early defense, but Brooke Johnston took immediate advance of a gap. She struck a perfect shot from the right side that dipped over the outstretched hand of Lady Vikings goalkeeper Ana Meyer just under the crossbar. It was the first of two goals for Johnston, who scored again in the second half. Pearce had seven first-half corner kicks. Mathews bent one of them into the back of the goal. She took a return pass and hit another long shot into the side of the net from a less extravagant angle. Kathryn Watson scored the final two goals of the half, with Johnston assisting on the second of those to give Pearce a 5-0 lead. Pearce also scored the first three goals of the second half. "We hung with them for all but about 10 minutes, but in that 10-minute span, they went crazy," Pettibone said. "In order to get where we want to go, we've got to play the best and that's the best team we are probably going to see for awhile. I haven't seen Belton play, and Belton may rank right there with them, but there's a reason why [the Lady Mustangs] are the 4A state champs."

Despite the lopsided loss in the final, Bryan (8-3-1) left clues that it may not remain a benevolent host of the Brazos Valley Cup. The Lady Vikings went 3-1 in their tournament, advancing to the championship match by beating Round Rock in a Saturday morning shootout. The teams finished regulation tied at 0, and Bryan eventually won the shootout 3-1. Bryan's only regulation goal of the day was a good one. Junior Jessica Chicas rattled the crossbar on a hard-hit, 35-yard free kick, and freshman Brittany Little raced to the rebound and blasted a shot high into the left side of the net. Little had a shot at another goal, heading down Bryan's only corner kick, but Pearce goalkeeper Rosa Medina played the ball perfectly. Pearce beat Friendswood 3-1 in the semifinals.
